Terms of Service

These terms govern use of SurveyorSim, a browser-based land surveying simulator and its classroom tier ("the service"). By creating an instructor account or claiming a student seat, you agree to them. The Privacy Policy is part of these terms and controls how data is handled.

The service

• The simulator is free to use. The classroom tier includes a free plan and optional paid plans for larger classes; whatever plan you are on, your students never pay anything.
• SurveyorSim is teaching software. It simulates surveying instruments and procedures for education and is not a substitute for licensed professional surveying, and its output has no legal effect for real-world boundaries, construction, or land records.

Accounts

• Instructor accounts require a working email address and are for people 18 or older. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your password private.
• Students use the service through their instructor's class code plus a personal 8-character sign-in code issued to them for their own seat; they must be 13 or older, or covered by their school's authorization. That personal code is theirs alone — students agree not to share it, and not to use anyone else's seat. If a code goes astray, the instructor can issue a replacement, which stops the old one working.
• If a roster comes from an educational institution's records, the instructor represents that they are authorized to use the service with their class. Nicknames on rosters are welcome — the service never needs legal names.

Acceptable use

Don't do these things:

• Break, probe, or overload the service, or try to access another account's data.
• Upload content that is unlawful, or that you don't have the right to use.
• Harass other users, including through multiplayer sessions or content shown to a class.
• Resell the service or misrepresent an affiliation with it.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where practical.

Your content

Classes, rosters, assignments, authored sites, and student coursework remain yours (or your institution's). You grant us only the license needed to host, process, display, and back up that content in order to run the service. We claim no other rights to it. When you delete it, the license ends with it.

Termination and deletion

You can stop using the service at any time. Instructors can permanently delete classes or their whole account from inside the product; deletion is immediate and cascades to all student data in the deleted scope, as described in the Privacy Policy. We may discontinue the service or a feature with reasonable advance notice to instructors.

Warranty and liability

The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be posted here with a new date and announced to instructors on sign-in; continued use after a change takes effect is acceptance of it.
